Spit-Tunes sets up a band or musical artist with a poet for collaboration on a special musical piece inspired by the poet’s poetry. We have an amazing line up, with Macondo, Sardine Is Back & The Wheel Is Broken, The Peppercorns and Anxt taking part – A vast array of musical styles that would suffice to be a brilliant gig alone except that now the bands will play a special collaboration song in their sets, complete with a small reading from each collaborating poet.
Spit-Tunes为每位诗人配备一支音乐组合，通过诗歌与音乐的碰撞结合完成特别的现场作品。我们有一个惊人的音乐阵容：Macondo, Sardine Is Back & The Wheel Is Broken, The Peppercorns和ANXT，风格多元，足以成为一个辉煌的演出。
The confirmed Spittoon poets are: Matias Luis Tagle, Anna Sowley, Steve Chen andSimon Shieh.
This is a project that has never been attempted before in Beijing and we’re very lucky to have the best talents to bring it to life. Come to DDC on the 23rd February at 8pm as we make history by bringing Beijing’s vibrant poetry and music scene together to make something new and groundbreaking.

How the live show will work?
Step 1 - Bands read a selection of poetry from a number of poets and choose a poet to work with.
Step 2 - The poets and bands decide on extent of their collaboration and create a piece of music inspired by the poets poetry over a two week period.
Step 3 - The bands perform the collaboration piece with or without the poet on top of songs from their usual sets. The poets also read the collaboration poem with a few poems from their usual sets.

Macondo (math-rock, post-rock)

Their unique music shifts from sounds that are ambient and heavy, spacious and dense to atmospheric but rhythmically driven. Bombastic drumming, layered with lush floating guitar textures and earth-shaking energetic bass attack, and otherworldly synthesiser sounds.

The Peppercorns is a band that plays heavy psychedelic rock music rooted in a classic 70's style, drawing inspiration from prog and art rock. The band is guitar heavy with experimental synth however their songs still maintain a pop sensibility. Fronted by Edog Wonderlogg II with Kangaroo Zhong on guitar, Brain 2.0 on drums, and Yan Von3000 on bass. Get ready for helicopters, paratroopers, and atomic lizards.
ANXT (Cape Town, chilled DJ)
来自开普敦，南非的anxt， 用音乐作画笔，把一列列的电子元素描绘成一座座的感情丰富的声音景观。他从现在他生活的城市北京寻找素材，采集声音，融入hip hop节奏，雕刻出引人入胜的一幅一幅生动景象。 “我对大自然与城市景观的热爱是我创作的最大灵感。我极力用音乐来表达与描述在我脑海里对周围影像的感觉，希望通过这样的方式保存我希望保存下来的的时刻和想法，我也希望用通过音乐来把这些翻译给我的听众。” 他也是最近北京现场最火爆的新晋摇滚乐队Macondo乐队成员之一，他在乐队里创造的高能量电子成分是乐队不可或缺的独特之处。 他是听着电子乐长大的那一代，在Bonobo, Tycho, Beacon, Nosaj Thing 影响下，anxt创作的音乐富有强烈的感情，听众在听音乐的同时感受到的是anxt看到的世界。 anxt 目前正在进行他的第一张EP的录制，预期在2017年春天发行。准备好在音乐的时空里起飞了吗？
Hailing from Cape Town, South Africa, Anxt fuses an array of musical elements to create moody electronic soundscapes. Set to the backdrops of urban field recordings with hip hop carved beats he takes you on a journey of the world that he’s lives in. “My love for nature and urban landscapes is what influences my sound, and I try and contextualise this imagery into a musical soundscape that captures these moments or ideas, and I try and translate them to the listener.” He is also makes up a quarter of Macondo which has been making waves around the Beijing music scene, to which he lends his skills as producer and songwriter to create high energy “Electronic Post Rock”. Influenced by the likes of Bonobo, Tycho, Beacon, Nosaj Thing and the music of his childhood he creates deeply emotional music that gives the listener a glimpse inside the world which is anxt. anxt is currently working on his debut EP which is set to be released in spring, 2017, so get ready to be transported.

Matia Ruiz-Tagle Tapia
No longer ad man, dishwasher, pottery maker, kiwifruit picker, show store servant, or hospitality slave. Committed cat sitter, plane seat hustler, video making enthusiast, and beat maker wannabe; spending his days between dubious online courses, early morning writing rants, and high-rolling Montessori sketches.
Steve Chen
Steve Chen studied literature and human rights law at Beijing University. He interned in a human rights NGO in Dublin and now he works in capacity building for Chinese NGOs. He writes poetry, short stories and criticism.
Simon Shieh
Simon Shieh is a writer and Humanities teacher in Beijing who has lived and studied in the U.S. and China. He organizes poetry workshops and Spittoon readings throughout Beijing.
Anna Sowley
Anna Sowley is a writer and journalist and co-owner of Beijing film bar Camera Stylo. Having worked freelance in London she now works for a magazine in Beijing. She writes fiction and poetry and is currently brewing a novel. She enjoys good books, watching films, ballet, travelling, inappropriately touching trees (and books), music and throwing things at luxury cars.
