Loreli's Chengdu trip began with a show at one of Chengdu's legendary venues. Started in 2007, and now with two locations (one being on the beach in Sanya!), Jah Bar is a staple of the Chengdu scene - and with a weird setup where the stage is right smack dab in the middle of the bar! We were able to chat with its owner, who goes by Lao Li 老李, to discuss the Chengdu scene and how he got started with Jah Bar. If you're heading down there, we recommend following them on Wechat by scanning the QR code below to figure out who they've got playing...

About Jah Bar:
Jah Bar is situated right by the river, near the Old South Bridge. It's got a huge outdoor courtyard and a nifty loft area where you can watch the bands. They feature a ton of new musicians and have a jam session every night.
Continuing with Loreli's "business trip" to Chengdu... We met some classically-trained musicians who jam together and sometimes play rock music with their cellos and violins, etc. Unfortunately, we were not able to catch them in action, but had a lovely chat at The Bookworm in Chengdu with two band members, Kun Wang and Tiangu Fan. We've included two of their songs here, but you can check out all of their music on their Xiami, Douban, and Kanjian pages. Follow them on Wechat by scanning the QR code below...

More this week from Loreli's "business trip" to Chengdu. In addition to some very experienced professional musicians, like Wu Zhuoling, at Machu Picchu bar's open mic night, we also ran into some students. Moran Rozenszajn and Dror Ne'eman are both from Israel, study Chinese in Chengdu, and try to get their hands on any Chinese instrument they can find.

About Moran Rozenszajn:
The moment Moran was born he's life changed forever and only 14 years later, for the first time he touched a guitar and felt the smooth wood across he's 14 years old guitar virgin fingers, and immediately became a music addict. After he successfuly played "Come as you are" by Nirvana 247 times he started learning classical music and wow, really enjoyed it. But he's poor teacher couldn't restraint him to stay in the aesthetics of the 17th century music, so Moran started playing middle eastren music, joined the army, adopted a badger and right after flew to the balkans. Shocked to he's foundation to see the deep connection between Gypsy balkan music, flamenco and middle eastren music, Moran decided to see what other connection he could find along the silk road and flew to China,The first (last) stop. Now Moran studies the erhu and the Chinese language in Chengdu and writing stupid biographies about himself, he sees it as a form of conceptual art. Positive energy
