The ladies of Loreli hit the road this month for our first-ever "business trip" to Chengdu, which consisted mostly of burning holes in our stomachs via hotpot and beer, and interviewing a crapload of super talented people hiding away in this rainy, laid back, up-and-coming city. In the next few weeks, you readers, lookers, and listeners will be treated to some great content from our brothers and sisters to the south.

We started our trip by sniffing out talent at the local Thursday night open mic at a bar called Machu Picchu. Open mic night in Chengdu is a place for not only recreational musicians to play, but many of the local professional musicians will make appearances as well. The first musician for Loreli's Chengdu series is Wu Zhuoling, who performs both acoustic and electronic music. We were only able to catch her acoustic set, but you check out all of her other music on her Soundcloud page.
About Wu Zhuoling:
A singer-songwriter and music producer from Chengdu China, Wu founded the band Wednesday's Trip (@wednesdays_trip) in Beijing in 2000. In 2005 she quit the band and moved to Tibet, after two years of reclusive life she returned to Chengdu and restarted her music career, refining her personal style and cooperating with various musicians and producers. She toured all over China and part of Europe, with 8 albums/EPs issued so far by the most influential indie labels in China. The elegant melodies, deep and warm vocals, female perspective story-telling lyrics and mystic tranquil atmosphere always endow her music a pure and unique quality.
More from the Quiet Voices Festival at fRUITYSPACE: Loreli met the surprisingly smiley Gabriel Duceppe from the metal band, ÖGENIX. As a solo artist, Gab performs what he describes as "artsy fartsy droney stuff." You can judge for yourself in the audio piece below or check out ÖGENIX on Facebook, Bandcamp, or YouTube.

About Gabriel Duceppe and ÖGENIX:
ÖGENIX in an Electro-Metal band founded by Gabriel Duceppe in Montreal in 2001. According to their Facebook page, ÖGENIX is ELECTRO METAL to melt your faces off!! NOISECORE to fry your brains!! ÖGENIX the sole flag bearer of the sound of the 21st century… THE FUTURE STARTS NOW!!!
Gab is the founder and principle songwriter for the band and has brought the project with him to China, where he is continuing to play with new band members. Gab also performs as a solo electronic artist, using DIY synths and programs he constructs himself. At the Quiet Voices Festival, Loreli was able to hear Gab performing solo, which you can hear in its entirety in the audio piece below, both as a bed of music beneath the interview and on its own at the end of the piece. Enjoy!
Oh, want a closer look at that weird gear Gab is using? Check it out...
